RECONCILING UNITED METHODIST & FRIENDS OF NORTH CAROLINA
MINUTES
AUGUST 20, 2001
CALVARY UMC
Kelly reported that Orange UMC will be available in the future but is not available on Sunday October 21, 2001. Krin will check with Ned Hill @ Millbrook to see if it is available. Brett will coordinate food for the gathering beforehand.
Gayle & Debbie were not at this meeting but the need for letters to identify safe ministers and safe churches for l/g/b/t persons was discussed. We have gathered addresses for the WNCC clergy and Sam is working on getting the NCC clergy addresses.
Takes Place September 29, 2001 in Durham/Raleigh. Sam/Eric are RUM Contacts, Lou Ann is Calvary UMC Contact. Both groups are planning on participating in the parade. It was decided that we will both rent a 10’ x 10’ space for an information table for $50 each. The woman who used to own Renaissance Gifts on Broad St. has since moved and parade organizers have told us that we can either set up a water table at her old location or 2 doors down on the grass in front of Duke Clinic. Set up is that morning at 9am. Brett volunteered to look for water.
There were a dozen from RUM who gathered with hundreds others in Tacoma for the national convocation, as well as 4 from APACT in Davidson NC. Those present at the meeting reported back to the larger group on how great the conference was.
Jeanie proposed new ideas for 2002 NC Annual Conference including a 4-tiered idea: 1-Footwashing Station, 2-Feed the Hungry (snacks on the table), 3-Prayer Closet (pray with those attending NCAC), 4-Music Station.
Several reported having spread the word of our group by putting us as a resource on the NC State LGBT web-site, the Duke LBGT web-site an on rainbow.com. The article recently written about our group will be published in the News & Observer on Friday, August 31, 2001.
Lois discussed a gathering with others in the WNCC. She will continue to update us with plans for an event with those in the WNCC.
